FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ARE TATTOOS SAFE?
We can't speak for every tattoo studio, but here at Monroe Street Tattoo & Piercing, your health and safety is our highest priority. In addition to providing new needles for every client, we also adhere to strict procedures to avoid cross-contamination. You can expect to see disposable ink holders, disposable razors, and barriers on everything that must be touched during the tattoo process. We work closely with the Leon County Health Department to ensure that our methods comply and exceed the most current guidelines.
DOES IT HURT?
Yes, it hurts! We are using needles to permanently insert pigments into your skin. The pain varies from person to person but is usually compared to a cat scratch, sunburn, or hair pull.
HOW MUCH DOES A TATTOO COST?
The cost of your tattoo depends on a number of factors including the type of work being done, the amount of time involved, size, placement, skin type, and color vs. black and gray. For smaller tattoos, we will generally quote you a price up-front. For larger tattoos, your artist may opt to quote you an hourly rate. Prices are comparable to other quality studios and the studio has a minimum price of $60 for any small tattoo. Larger tattoos are typically based on an hourly amount depending on the artist and their availability.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE TO GET TATTOOED AT MONROE STREET TATTOO AND PIERCING?
Our award-winning tattoo artists go to great lengths to ensure that every client receives the best possible tattoo. We will not only listen to your ideas, but we will counsel you to help decide on the optimum size, placement, and design that will look best for you. Our friendly artists are extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of tattoo design and application, so you can trust that you are in good hands. Be sure to look at your artists portfolio to ensure he or she is capable of creating the style of that tattoo for you.
DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?
We do take walk-ins! No appointment is necessary for smaller designs. However, if you're interested in a larger tattoo, we suggest coming in and speaking with an artist ahead of time about your ideas. Appointments are suggested for anyone who wants a custom design. Your artist will usually ask for a deposit before an appointment is set, which will go towards the overall price of the tattoo. To better help you, please call ahead for any additional questions or before driving a long distance with plans to get a walk-in tattoo.
I HAVE AN ORIGINAL IDEA, WHERE DO I BEGIN?
Every artist at Monroe Street Tattoo & Piercing specializes in a different style of artwork. You should begin by looking through the artists' portfolios to see if you like the art of anyone specific.
CAN YOU DRAW SOMETHING FOR ME TO SEE?
Yes, but it is not quite that easy to do for you all without a little proper planning and talking about things first. This is called a "consultation" with one of our artists. For a custom tattoo you will want to take a little time to meet or exchange emails with your artist to discuss all the details of the tattoo, this is a lot better for everyone to do in person if possible.
HOW MUCH WILL MY CUSTOM TATTOO COST?
Every tattoo is priced based on a number of factors and mainly the amount of time involved with a custom tattoo. Generally with any large tattoo that may take more than one session to complete, the tattoo will be charged based on a rate per hour. Every artist has a different rate and a different schedule, some artists may be booked ahead a few weeks or months and may take a while to get your tattoo started. But when your appointment date arrives, the attention is on you and good work is worth the wait. There will also be a deposit required at the time of consultation to schedule the actual appointment dates and complete a drawing. This deposit will be used towards the price of the tattoo as well.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY TATTOO?
We recommend that our clients use one of the recommended products listed on our aftercare instructions that are given at the time of tattoo. Aquaphor is a high recommend brand of antibiotic ointment that we use for healing our tattoos. Keeping the tattoo moist with this ointment for the first week after getting the tattoo is highly encouraged. After about a week of ointment, we recommend for you to stop using the ointment and switch a non-scented lotion for the next week.
No swimming or sun bathing during the healing process.
I AM UNDER 18, CAN I GET A TATTOO IF MY PARENT SIGNS FOR ME?
YES, Florida state law requires that you be at least 16 years old to get a tattoo with parental consent. However, we believe that you will inevitably regret a tattoo that you receive at such a young age since you are still growing physically and mentally and we always encourage people to make sure they are ready for such a major decision.
